Panchakarma is a de-toxification process, unique to Ayurveda which assists the body to expel toxins and to eliminate disturbances of doshas.To prepare for this elimination therapies, We first prepare the body with Poorvakarma (Perparatory Therapies) which loosen and mobilize toxins.Typically, oil and heat therapies as well as internal medications. The toxins are eliminated with the Pradhanakarma therapies appropriate for the individual and their condition. Following this, the body is rebuilt with Paschatkarma, including the use of rasayana and special healing diets and routines.
Preparatory therapies.
1. Shirodhara: A therapy wherein a continuous flow of medicated oil in a constant pace for a fixed duration. It gives Deep relaxation, nervine stimulator, induces good sleep.
2. Abhyanga(single): Anointment of the entire body to relax and oleate the body tissues. It keeps the body fit, removes fatigue & keeps vata under control.
3. Abhyanga(double): Synchronised anointment of the entire body to relax and oleate the body tissues and keeps the body fit, removes fatigue & keeps vata under control.
4. Takradhara: A therapy wherein a continuous flow of medicated milk and buttermilk in a constant pace for a fixed duration. It reduces hypertension, induces quality sleep.
5. Bashpa Sweda: Sudation procedure with the help of herbal decoctions in the bashpa chamber and tonifies the body tissues.
6. Patra pinda sweda: The foementation done here is from the bolus of fresh herbs. It is a deep tissue relaxation and pain reliever.
7. Shashtika shali pinda sweda: Here the foementation is done from the bolus of medicated red rice. It is a skin nourisher and toner.
8. Choorna sweda: The foementation here is done from the bolus of dry herbs. It is a deep bony pain reliever and controls vata.
9. Nadi sweda: The foementation is done from the herbal decoction given by the hose and jet. It benifits in pain, sprain and stiffness management.
10. Ashma sweda: This process is a foementation done from a particular type of stone.Its a kapha type pain reliever.
11 .Kaya Seka: Continuous stream of medicated oil all over the body. Its is benificial for muscle deep pain management and nervine stimulator.
12. Udwartana: Here the massage is done with herbal powders and oil together. It is generally used in lipid tissue management.
13. Kati Basti: Maintaining the medicated oil on the low back in a particular constant temperature. It is benificial for low back ache, lumbar inter vertebral disc lesions.
14. Greeva Basti: Maintaining the medicated oil on the back of the neck in a particular constant temperature for a certain fixed duration. It is benificial for neck, shoulder pain and cervical spondyosis.
15. Prushta basti: Maintaining the medicated oil on the entire spine in a particular constant temperature for a certain fixed duration. It is benificial back ache, multiple intervertebral disc lesions.
16. Jaanu Basti: Main taining the medicated oil on the knee in a particular constant temperature for a certain fixed duration. Beneficial for knee pain and diff types of arthriti.
17. Hrid basti: Maintaining the medicated oil on the chest in a particular constant temperature for a certain fixed duration. and tonifies the heart.
18. Shiro basti: Maintaining the medicated oil on the head in a particular constant temperature for a certain fixed duration. Good for neuoligical disorders, hair and scalp problems.
19. Shiro pichu: Medicated tampoon of the scalp and helps in neuoligical disorders, hair and scalp problems.
20. Tala dharana: Medicinal herb powders used on a particular point on the scalp. This is to control vata.
21. Kati dhara: Continuous stream of medicated oil over the low back region. Good for low back ache, lumbar inter vertebral disc lesions.
22. Greeva dhara: Continuous stream of medicated oil over the back of the neck. Good for neck, shoulder pain and cervical spondyosis.
23. Jaanu dhara: Continuous stream of medicated oil over the knee. Benificial knee pain,diff types of arthritis.
24. Shirobhyanga: Head massage with more therapeutic strokes. Benefial to head aches, insomnia and hair problems,rejuvination.
25. Netra tarpana: Maintaining the medicated ghee over the eyes. Its good for eye strain, computer vision syndrome, and many other eye disorders.
26. Anjana:Collyriums benificial for certain eye disorders and to improve the vision.
27. Karna poorana: Its oleation of the ears benificial for ear problems and improve hearing.
28. Kavala : Done by Gargling with decoctions for oral problems.
29. Gandoosha: Done by gargling with medicated oil for oral problems.
30. Yoni pichu: Tampoon in the vagina for simple gynaecological problems.
31. Dhoopana: Fumigation of the hair and body for bringing the doshas to equilibrium.
32. Dhoomrapana: Fumigation through the oral and nasal cavities to eleminate excess vetiated kapha.
33. Snaana: An art of taking herbal bath and rejuvinates the body.
34. Avagaaha: An art of taking herbal bath and rejuvinates the body.
35. Vaaluka sweda: Foementation given with a particular variety of sand in a bolus.It gives deep tissue relaxation and pain of kapha type on the joints.
36. Sthanika sweda: Foementation of different types done at on single region of the body to relief pain/ache/sprain in aparticular region only.
37. Upanaaha: Medicalted herbal poultice application to remove small local pain and inflammations and also in pigmentations.
38. Yoni prakshalana: Herbal vaginal douche for gynaecological problems.
39. Vamana: One of the pancha karma which is a complete 13 day procedure to eleminate the toxins of the body by oral route(therapeutic emesis). Its a detoxification, used in various disorders of the body.
40 .Virechana: One of the pancha karma which is a complete 15 day procedure to eleminate the toxins of the body by anal route(therapeutic purging). Its a detoxification, used in various disorders of the body.
41. Nasya: One of the pancha karma wherein medication is instilled through the nostrils. E.N.T problems and neurological problems.
42. Asthapana Basti: One of the pancha karma wherin the the administration of the herbal decoctions through the rectal route (medicated enema) for various disorders of vata.
43. Anuvasana Basti: One of the pancha karma wherin the the administration of the herbal oils through the rectal route (medicated enema) for various disorders of vata.
44. Rakta Mokshana: One of the pancha karma wherein blood letting procedure is done by various means. Benificial for skin disorders, and some of the disorders related to blood.
45. Marma vijnana: The education abo ut the vital points on the body for helps in a very high technical therapies.
46. Dina Charya: Daily food / lifestyle regimen according to ayurveda for healthy living.
47. Rutu charya: Seasonal / lifestyle regimen according to ayurveda for healthy livng.
48. Garbhini charya: A complete pregnancy care regimen according to ayurveda for a safe and healthy pregnancy.
49. Kshara karma: A special traditional para surgical way of handling the ano -rectal problems for haemorroids and fistula.
50. Kesha prakshalana: A medicated herbal hair wash to improve hair healty.
51. Padabhyanga: Deep pressure massage done with foot for deep body relaxation.
Elimination therapies.
1. Vamana: The elimination of the Vitiated doshas /toxins out of the body through the oral route or orifice. The main procedure to eliminate the vitiated kapha from the body.
2. Virechana: The elimination of the Vitiated doshas /toxins out of the body through the anal route or orifice. The main procedure to eliminate the vitiated pitta from the body.
3. Nasya: The instillation of the medication in the form of nasal drops to eliminate the vitiated doshas present above the shoulder level.
4. Basti: Administration of herbal decoctions (Asthapana) or herbal oils (Anuvasana) through the rectal route. The main procedure to eliminate the vitiated vata from the body.
5. Rakta Mokshana: This is a blood-letting therapy to eliminate the vitiated rakta or the blood out of the body. Used is various skin and blood related illnesses
Rejuvenation therapies.
This is a procedure that restores the body to normalcy after the Pradhana karma by way of diet , regimen etc.
