5 Yoga Exercises for a healthy respiratory system:
Pranayama for breathing problems involves you to sit with the legs crossed and align the spine, neck and head in a straight line. Close your eyes, and focus solely on breathing using the abdomen in both rapid and slow motions. Repeat for a few minutes to experience relaxation.
Also known as cleansing breath, it involves taking a deep breath and exhaling out forcefully. It focuses on the contraction in the lower abdomen. Cleans the passages, and is helpful with diseases like asthma and chronic bronchitis.
This asana uses alternate breathing technique. Hold your thumb against your right nostril as you inhale through the left nostril. Lift your thumb and allow the air to escape through your right nostril. Repeat 2 or 3 times. It helps purify the blood and the respiratory system.
4. Jastiasana: Lie down on your back. Stretch your hands straight upward and hold your right thumb with the left thumb. The lower body will be stretched downward and upper body to be stretched upward. Hold and count till 10 seconds. Repeat twice. This helps provide natural traction.
Sit up straight, and inhale deeply via the nose allowing the inhalation to stroke the throat area. Close both eyes and ears softly with the help of index fingers. Then slowly exhale the air creating a buzzing sound. It is one of the yoga poses for clearing lungs.
